Boot Camp

I just finished Boot Camp, by Todd Strasser and I have got to say that he is an amazing writer. It is very unusual for me to read a book by an author I have never heard of, but I am so glad that I did!
Boot Camp is about a teenager, around fifteen, getting kidnapped by a man and a woman, and taken for a long drive. When they finally stop he ends up at a school for troubled teens, Lake Harmony. His parents sent him there because he was seeing his high school math teacher, who happened to be eight years older than him. Garrett’s parents told him to stop seeing her and start going to school on a regular basis, like every other student. Yet Garrett does not stop seeing her and does not go to school every day.
When I started to read this I never wanted to put it down because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. Boot Camp got me thinking about this situation, in reality. This could possibly happen and nobody would know about it because they would stay out of the media. This book would definitely be for the modern audience. I felt horrible when Garrett got beat up all the time and then got put in isolation. How long would I last in that kind of situation? Would I try to protect myself no matter what they did to me? Those are the questions that I do not want to be answered.

  1. Whoa. That is really intense. I'm so glad you read the book. Would you consider doing a very informal book chat for the class? (Extra credit!) Maybe you'll convince others to read it, too. Let me know!

  2. Maybe...would it be the same rules as it was for the other mini book chat?
